Duties of Office and qualifications required for their performance.

The duties are identical with those of an Engineer & Ship Surveyor app- ointed by the Board of Trade for the purposes of the Hercahnt Shipping Acts.

Qualifications. are as required by candidates for appointment by the Board of Trade as Engineer and Ship Surveyor.

3. Allowances, quarters and other circumstances affecting the value of the Office.

Partially furnished rented quarters if available. If quarters are supplied by Government a deduction of 6 (or 7% is heavy furniture is provided) will be made from the Officer's salary. If Government quarters are not supplied an officer who rents a tanement with the permission of the Governmen t, receives a rent allowance in the sum of the rent and taxes payable in respect of the unfurnished tenement lessa sum of 6% of salary. The maximum monthly rentals inclusive of taxes which are

recognised by the Government are as follows:

(a). In the case of an Officer whose

salary exceeds £1400 per annum $250 per mensem.

(b). In the case of an Officer who se

salary exceeds 100 but does not exceed £1400 per annum, $200 per mensem.

(c). In the case of an Officer whose

salary exceeds £700 but does not exceed 1100 per annum, $175 per mensem.

(d). In the case of an Officer whose

Salary does not exceed £700 per annum $150 per mensem.

A tenement is taken to be a separate house or a self-contained flat of two or more rooms, but does not include accommodation in a hotel or Boarding House or, except with the express approval of the Government
